A two-storey foyer sets the tone for the entire residence, showcasing opulent features such as inlaid marble flooring, domed ceilings with silver-leaf inlay and hand-painted motifs, and exotic-wood millwork. Custom-designed metal filigree accents add a touch of whimsical playfulness to the overall grandeur and comfort of the space.
The architectural elements of Shaughnessy Manor are designed to impress, with floor-to-ceiling columns, archways, and curved transom windows that add both visual grounding and architectural weight. The attention to detail is remarkable, with functional necessities artistically hidden, such as air-conditioning vents concealed behind molding details and sprinkler heads cleverly integrated into the ceiling motif.
One of the standout features of this residence is the lower-level pool, which features a hand-painted mural that creates the illusion of a pathway behind a fully-functional fountain always moving away from the observer. This forced-perspective technique adds an element of intrigue and visual interest to the space.
Shaughnessy Manor is not only visually stunning but also technologically advanced. The integration of Control-4 technology allows the homeowner to have complete control and visibility over the entire house, even when they are overseas. This level of security and convenience ensures peace of mind for the homeowner and their family.
With its classic architectural details and exquisite furnishings, Shaughnessy Manor is a testament to the designer's ability to blend traditional aesthetics with contemporary materials. The result is a luxurious and comfortable family home that meets the owner's extensive, international business entertaining requirements.
Shaughnessy Manor, located in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, was a project that started in May 2013 and was completed in March 2015. The design challenges were overcome with meticulous attention to proportions and monumentation, maintaining a sense of elegant yet airy grandeur throughout the residence. The total building time of less than two years is a testament to the efficiency and expertise of the design team.
This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2016. The award acknowledges the outstanding and creatively ingenious nature of Shaughnessy Manor, highlighting its contribution to quality of life improvements through the incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
