The inspiration behind the design is the integration of finance and mass communication, two fields characterized by the sense of speed and real-time information. To capture this essence, Lee chose the element of time as the theme for the design. The space is reinvented and interpreted with different time definitions through rapidly floating and changing rhythm, mirroring the swift pace of financial, monetary, and cash flow as well as online real-time information.
What sets this design apart is its unique interpretation of the concept of fortune. The design is based on the idea of "Fortune as Water," expressing wealth as a running water in an endless stream. This is reflected in the color differential that enhances the visual depth, with the carpet to the glass sector being gray outside and indigo inside, creating an exotic filter-like effect.
The office space, spanning 820m2, includes a reception area, meeting rooms, a pantry, an open-plan office, and independent offices. The materials used range from marble and bamboo to stainless steel, carpet, and leather. A standout feature is the suspended deconstructed round wall clock, collaged from purposely broken 3mm thick sheet material, recalling the historic ruins at the Acropolis.
One of the design's key strengths is its intelligent use of space. Movable partition panels allow for a swift and efficient change of size from a small room that seats several participants to a big auditorium that accommodates a hundred participants. This flexibility caters to different needs and allows for a more efficient use of space.
The design project was carried out from September 2015 to March 2016. It was a collaborative effort, with Sam Chung and Richard Kuo also contributing to the design. The underlying research for the design was based on the concept of "Time is Money," reflecting the corporate image and mission. The design successfully integrates antique and modern elements, engaging the theme of time in a unique and innovative way.
In conclusion, Nic Lee's design for cnYES.com is a testament to the power of innovative design in transforming office spaces. By integrating elements of time and fortune, the design creates a space that is not only functional but also reflective of the company's character and mission. It is a deserving winner of the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017.
