Wei-Chi Chien drew inspiration from the southern French countryside style for Life Temperature. The design showcases a perfect balance of ratio, gradation, and saturation, achieved through hand-made colors. The owner's desire to emphasize the style through furniture, fabric, and decorations was fulfilled, creating a space that exudes a relaxed, natural, and humane atmosphere.
Life Temperature stands out due to its unique integration of the Duplex business concept, which includes design, cloth, and store elements. The café's interior and exterior both embrace the countryside style, using natural and primitive materials to construct a landmark amidst the urban environment. The design not only furnishes the space but also assimilates local culture, making it a unique blend of urban and rural aesthetics.
The café was realized using retro brick, door leaf, iron, wood, and cloth as the main materials. Through a re-ordered construction method, the original design was reinterpreted, bringing out the emotion and wonder of the space. The indoor area of the café is approximately 660 square meters, and the building had been abandoned for about ten years before the transformation.
The design was made complete in February 2015 in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The concept extends to the Antique café beside it, making the Duplex business concept a landmark in the area while fitting into the urban culture. The interior design uses the "landscaping, zoning concept" as the main theme, making the showroom feel like a warm home.
Life Temperature faced several challenges during its realization. The interior design team had to ensure that the Antique café perfectly embodied the French countryside style. They successfully combined furnishing, life, fabric, and decoration into a business space, emphasizing originality and customizing a unique style. The space is highly functional, reflecting the natural, relaxed, primitive, and romantic aspects of the French countryside style.
In conclusion, Life Temperature is a testament to Wei-Chi Chien's innovative design approach, blending French countryside charm with modern urban aesthetics. The design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, is a remarkable example of how design can transform an abandoned building into a vibrant, welcoming space that reflects the lifestyle of the French countryside.
