Confucianism House

A Perfect Balance of Modern Luxury and Low Profile

Confucianism House is a private residence designed by TACCO LEE that embodies the principles of Confucianism, a Chinese philosophy that emphasizes social harmony and balance. This unique design showcases the strength and tenderness that Confucianism represents, creating a space that is both luxurious and modest.

The owner of Confucianism House is an unmarried individual who is highly educated, modest, and intelligent. The design of the house revolves around these characteristics, aiming to strike a balance between modern luxury and a low-profile aesthetic. The use of materials such as black cold steel represents strength, while warm painted wood symbolizes tenderness.

The house features a combination of wood, gray stone, black metal, and cement, creating a harmonious blend of textures and colors. The original acreage of the house was 250 square meters, but it was expanded to 300 square meters by transforming one of the balconies. This expansion allowed for the incorporation of additional functional spaces.

One of the notable design elements of Confucianism House is a full-wall, floor-to-ceiling black steel bookshelf. This bookshelf serves both a practical and decorative purpose, showcasing the owner's collection of books while adding visual interest to the space. Another design challenge was creating a cement-like ceiling without using actual cement, achieving the desired aesthetic without sacrificing practicality.

Located in Egal Harbor, Haizhu District, Guangzhou, China, Confucianism House was completed in January 2016. Throughout the design process, TACCO LEE and the design team worked closely with the owner to ensure that the principles of Confucianism were incorporated into every aspect of the house. From the overall layout to the smallest details like lighting and pillows, the design reflects the owner's personality, education, and grace.

Confucianism House was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. Confucianism House stands as a testament to the successful integration of art, science, design, and technology, making it a truly exceptional living space.
