Widiba Institutional Font: A Unique Typeface for Corporate Identity

Award-Winning Design by Jekyll and Hyde - Fabrizio Schiavi

Inspired by the design of monitors and the works of Herbert Bayer, the Widiba Institutional Font is a unique typeface that strengthens corporate identity. This article explores its design process, unique properties, and the challenges overcome in its creation.

The Widiba Institutional Font, designed by Jekyll and Hyde - Fabrizio Schiavi, is a unique typeface that has been designed to strengthen corporate identity. The design team took inspiration from the design of monitors, which have an external rounded corner and an internal squared corner. They also drew inspiration from the typefaces realized by Herbert Bayer, a renowned designer associated with the Bauhaus movement.

The typeface has a friendly aspect and is enriched with little details that make it stand out. To provide more flexibility for various applications, the design team created four different rounded font weights. In addition, they developed a serif version and a condensed one, both of which are available in just one weight. The typeface was initially designed on paper, then realized using FontLab Studio, an industry-standard font creation and editing tool.

Creating a personalized font allows for a stronger corporate identity, as noted by the design team. The project, which started in July 2014 in Milano, was completed in January 2017. The design process involved analyzing many existing Rounded Fonts to find distinctive elements useful in creating their font. The hardest part of this design activity was maintaining both good legibility and an aesthetic result.

Widiba is a bank that operates mainly online. Its payoff is “no ordinary bank,” which conveys the innovative aim of the company. The design team created the institutional rounded typeface to help strengthen the brand identity in all communication fields. The Widiba rounded font-family is set up in four weights: light, book, medium, and bold.

The Widiba Institutional Font has been realized in OpenType PS and TrueType/OpenType TT format. The copyrights belong to Widiba S.p.A., 2015. This design was awarded the Golden A' Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design Award in 2017. The award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.

In conclusion, the Widiba Institutional Font is a unique typeface that combines functionality and aesthetics. It is a testament to the innovative and creative prowess of the design team at Jekyll and Hyde - Fabrizio Schiavi. The typeface not only enhances the corporate identity of Widiba but also sets a benchmark for typeface design in the corporate world.
