River Brings New Life: A Loft-Style Public Space by Pei-Ying Lee

Lee's design was inspired by the desire to create a relaxing and pleasant living atmosphere, a departure from the more intensive styles often seen in public spaces. The main tone of the design is the loft style, which is applied through the building facade, interior landscapes, and spatial design. This style is consistent with the extensive courtyard landscapes surrounding the building, creating a harmonious visual effect between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The unique properties of the design are evident in the independent club located on the second floor. The club features modern-style ceiling windows on three distinguished directions, further enhancing the connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. The design also incorporates a suspended staircase made of ironworks and wooden materials, adding a sense of lissome and upward pleasure to the space.

The realization of the design was achieved through careful planning and execution. The black wall along the staircase is filled with mathematical equations, creating a duplicate of a classroom environment. The second floor, which serves multiple functions including reading and a workout gym, offers a diversified sense of space for different users while meeting their living mechanisms.

The design was completed in January 2016 in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, covering an area of 1754 square meters. The project faced several challenges, including maintaining consistency with the extensive courtyard landscapes around the building and creating a harmonious visual effect between the indoor and outdoor spaces. However, these challenges were successfully overcome, resulting in a design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
