Boof: A Unique Fast Food Experience Inspired by Owl Lifestyle

Mehrkameh Veiseh and Hesam Shahidi's Innovative Design Approach

The designers derived their inspiration from the owl's lifestyle, particularly its habitat - the clefts in tree trunks. This concept was simplified and symbolized, then applied throughout the restaurant's interior design. The name of the project, "Boof," which means owl, further emphasizes this theme.

Boof's unique properties lie in its design concept, which is deeply rooted in the owl's lifestyle. The designers have extended this theme across the entire project, creating a cohesive and engaging environment. The materials chosen for the restaurant's construction, such as Epoxy for the floor and Knauf for the walls, were selected for their practicality and suitability to the design concept.

The project faced several challenges, including the presence of numerous columns that had to be maintained. The designers cleverly incorporated these into the design by surrounding them with furniture and chairs. The concept of the owl's habitat was also applied to the counter, flower boxes, and roof design, creating a consistent and captivating theme throughout the restaurant.

The design process involved extensive research, including studying books on restaurant and fast food design, reviewing similar cases, and studying the owl's lifestyle. The designers also had to consider the climate of Asaluyeh, Iran, where the restaurant is located, and the cultural and behavioral characteristics of the local people.

Boof's design has been recognized with a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and that evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder. The award is a testament to the creativity and professional skill of designers Mehrkameh Veiseh and Hesam Shahidi.
