Inspired by the interplay of light and shadow in architecture, the design of Time of the Family incorporates recessed windows in the main bedroom, creating a beautiful halation effect. The intake and exhaust venting system, along with the double acting door in the kitchen, minimize the impact of smoke and ensure a clean and pleasant environment for the family. These ingenious and meticulous designs effectively isolate the influence of contamination, allowing the family to enjoy their residence with ease and peace of mind.
What sets Time of the Family apart is its focus on environmental preservation. The design allows for the natural elements of wind, daylight, water, dewdrops, and seasonal variations to be experienced throughout the living space. The automatic controlled garden adds a touch of luxury and relaxation, while also being labor-saving and invigorating.
The realization of the design incorporates wood-grain stones and slate-made mountains, seamlessly extending from the outdoor to the indoor space. The rough quality of the wall surface behind the couch, combined with laminates, reduces sound reflections and creates a comfortable audio room. Additionally, this design effectively isolates heat from outside, maintaining a comfortable temperature throughout the entire indoor space. The windows are strategically designed to infuse the residence with fresh air, further enhancing the overall living experience.
Time of the Family spans 229 square meters and was completed in February 2016 in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. The design process began with extensive research into the client's personal history, preferences, and concepts of beauty, ensuring that the design met their mental and living requirements. The collaboration between the cautious engineers and the extroverted family, guided by the designer's expertise, resulted in a residence filled with love, tenderness, and surprising elements.
One of the notable challenges in this design was to create a warm and intimate atmosphere without relying on sophisticated designs. The single chairs, designed specifically for reading and listening to music, replaced the traditional TV, fostering family intimacy through love, interactions, and a capacity for magnanimousness.
Time of the Family was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. Ming-Yi Wang's design showcases strong technical and creative skills, making the world a better place through art, science, design, and technology.
