YongCai Huang's inspiration for Dforce comes from the game of billiards, a game filled with dramatic elements and an unpredictable outcome. The club aims to express this through its space design, creating an environment filled with dramatic elements and different energies. The club's unique properties include a large amount of grey metals and a large pole representing the start point of power. The use of these elements attempts to explain the nature of games through acting force, creating an entertainment club filled with fragment elements, undercurrents, and grotesque dramas.
The realization technology of Dforce involves the use of massive triangular surface modeling, made with matte grey stainless steel. The drawings of the triangular shape modeling had to be accurately expressed in the early stages to ensure the smooth progress of the construction. The nature of the reflection and refraction of the metal material makes it produce good visual feelings with light, creating a blurred, illusory, and interesting environment.
The design specifications of Dforce include two floors with a total area of 1857 square feet. The first floor measures 31500mm x 41500mm x 4380mm, and the second floor measures 11570mm x 41500mm x 4380mm. The design tags provided by the designer include d-force, club, bar, and dramatic.
The design interaction of Dforce is straightforward. Upon entering the space, along the vision, customers can find whatever they want. Whether they want to have a seat for some talks, drink a cup of wine, or play a round of billiards, the space will guide them to their desired location.
The project began in June 2015 on Xingguo Road, Guangzhou, China, and finished in July 2016. The design research focused on providing consumers with a new club consumption experience, building a space different from those with complex decorative senses, gaudy colors, and sexual cues. The design emphasizes exchange, experience, and diffusion.
The most significant design challenge was convincing the owner to change the concept and realize irregular space modelings. This was not the same idea as the conventional bar, and the owner went through a wavering period on business operations. The irregular shapes increased the construction difficulty and cost. Despite these challenges, Dforce was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, a testament to its innovative and trendsetting design.
