The project involved interviews with dentists and dental X-ray experts, as well as prototyping and design processes. Focus groups tested pre-releases to ensure the software was on the right track.

One of the biggest challenges faced during the design process was creating a new user interface for an outdated software while still meeting the unique needs of the users. However, Reuter-Heinrich and her team successfully overcame this challenge, resulting in a modern and user-friendly design that has been widely praised by dentists around the world.

Sidexis 4 has received numerous accolades, including the Bronze A' Design Award in the Information Technologies category in 2017.
