Stone extension

The Mirror Jewellery- Beauty Extension project by XIAODONG LIU presents a novel styled series of jewelry, including a necklace and earrings. The jewelry is composed of center stones and surrounding hand-fan-shaped mirrors. With the mirror, the stones are duplicated, light is reflected, and the neighboring spaces are infinitely extended. This color and light extension creates a magical and striking effect.

The hand-fan-shaped parts of the jewelry are made of brass and plated with a mirror finish without lead or nickel. The round-shaped green zircon stones are set in the center of the fan-shaped body. They are fixed on a piece of brass setting and connected with a leather belt. Green agate-beaded tassels are hung from the setting.

The main part of the necklace is 20 cm, and the length of the leather belt is 35 cm. The lengths of the two earrings are 12 cm and 7 cm.

The Mirror Jewellery- Beauty Extension project started in January 2017 and was finished in February 2017 in Hong Kong. XIAODONG LIU conducted research on how to use fewer precious stones to maximize beauty. Various materials were tested, including glasses, ceramics, and steels, to achieve the desired effect. The shape selection of the main jewelry was the most challenging part, with different shaped mirror combinations being tested to effectively reflect the stone.

The Mirror Jewellery- Beauty Extension project was awarded Bronze in the A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2017. This award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. XIAODONG LIU's design exhibits strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements.
