Revolutionizing Everyday Wear: The Joss Stain-Repellent T-Shirt

Unveiling LuxMea Studio's Innovative Fusion of Art and Nanotechnology

Delving into the inspiration, unique properties, and realization technology behind the award-winning Joss stain-repellent t-shirt by LuxMea Studio, a design that marries art and nanotechnology to transform everyday wear.

When it comes to design inspiration, LuxMea Studio's Joss t-shirt line is a testament to the power of a designer's mind to transform real-life needs into innovative solutions. The idea to create a shirt that is not only stylish and comfortable but also durable and easy to handle sparked the birth of Joss. The design team's fascination with the possibility of fusing timeless themes of love, life, and death with nanotechnology resulted in a unique interdisciplinary artifact of intricacy that offers protection from spills and stains.

What sets Joss apart from other designs is its unique combination of design and material creation. The t-shirt line uses nanotech fabric NanoJ, which boasts water-repellent and oil-resistant properties. This is achieved through a unique process that orderly attaches nanoparticles to the fabric's fiber, making it more durable and comfortable compared to other water-repellent fabrics where nanoparticles are "cross-linked" without order.

The realization of the Joss design involved a simultaneous process of illustration design and material design. The fabric was manufactured from a selected mill with the capacity to work with nanotechnology. The nanoparticles formed fluoropolymer chains and permanently attached to the cotton fiber, resulting in a new fabric that is more durable and comfortable than other water-repellent materials. Following the production of the fabric, t-shirt patterning and printing were carried out.

The Joss t-shirt line serves as an excellent everyday wear, providing design options and protection from spills and stains. It offers an intrinsic wearing experience to consumers through the fabric's outstanding water-repellence and oil-resistance and the apparel's graphic design. It is an unstainable everyday t-shirt that aims to make every day delightful.

The design project started in August 2016 in Boston and was completed in February 2017. The process involved extensive research on illustration concepts, supply market, and different specs that affect the properties of fabric. The team also researched nanotechnology and collaborated with a vendor to apply it on the fabric. The most challenging aspect was finding the appropriate chemical lab and fabric mill to collaborate and manage the process.

The Joss t-shirt line is a testament to LuxMea Studio's innovative approach to design, fusing art and technology to create a unique process where illustration design and material design happen simultaneously. This design was awarded Silver in the A' Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns, and Cloth Design Award in 2017, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
