BBlunt: A Posh and Fun Industrial-Chic Hair Salon

Unleashing the Quirky Charm of Industrial Design

The design of BBlunt is a celebration of industrial design, with a composition of rough-slate flooring, white-wash floor boards, high-gloss furniture, upcycled mirrors, metal travel trunks, and a funky street hand-cart. The salon's quirk-factor is further enhanced by pop-art and queer wall art, adding a touch of personality to the space.

One of the standout features of BBlunt is its open-salon layout, centered around a stylish central styling-table and space-age styling-pods that accentuate the salon floor. This design choice creates a dynamic and engaging atmosphere for both stylists and clients. Additionally, the salon includes a hair-ritual room, a mani-pedi alcove, and beauty rooms tucked away at the back for privacy.

To catch the attention of passersby, BBlunt boasts a 7-feet high self-lit 3D logo abutting the exterior glass facade. This eye-catching feature announces the presence of the bustling salon and adds a touch of glamour to the busy street below.

The realization of BBlunt's design involved a carefully curated material palette. Painted galvanized-iron AC ducts, laminated wooden flooring, rough grey slate flooring, custom-bent ply furniture, recycled wooden mirrors, galvanized-iron travel trunks, wallpapers, and printed vinyl wall art all contribute to the salon's industrial-chic look.

With a total area of 280 square meters, BBlunt is a testament to the creativity and vision of Gautam Desai and Brent Barber. The interior fit-out of the salon began in July 2013 and was completed in September 2013, resulting in a space that seamlessly combines style, functionality, and character.

BBlunt's design is not only visually stunning but also a result of extensive research. The designers studied existing salons in London and New York City, as well as projects that embraced the industrial aesthetic, to ensure that BBlunt stood out from the crowd.

Overcoming creative, technical, and budgetary challenges, Gautam Desai and Brent Barber successfully delivered a salon that embodies the essence of industrial-chic design. BBlunt has become a go-to destination for those seeking a posh and fun salon experience.

BBlunt's design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category.
