Iox: A Unique Residential Apartment Design

Integrating Office and Residence with Style and Privacy

The inspiration for the Iox design came from the desire to create a space that exudes elegance and composure. The use of a cold color palette, predominantly grey, along with materials such as fair-faced concrete and leather, creates a low-key yet sophisticated atmosphere. The study room, which was originally a balcony prone to water leaks, has been transformed into a functional workspace for the eldest son, addressing the previous construction issues.

What sets the Iox design apart is its ability to seamlessly integrate an office and residence while maintaining individual privacy. The building spans five floors, with the second floor dedicated to the office and public areas of the residence. The third, fourth, and fifth floors are exclusive spaces for the family, ensuring a sense of personal retreat.

The realization of the Iox design is based on three key elements: I, O, and X. The "I" represents the square and firm lines that the homeowner favors, reflected in the mirror designs throughout the space. The "O" symbolizes the circular components that signify rewards and perfection achieved through hard work. Finally, the "X" element pays homage to the children's favorite movie, X-Men, with light fixtures and wardrobes inspired by the film's iconic scenes.

With a property size of 270 square meters, the Iox design offers ample space for comfortable living. The office on the second floor showcases contemporary minimalism and wooden textures, creating a charismatic and inviting workspace. The use of clear glass windows and window shades allows for abundant natural light, while built-in wall wood closets maximize space efficiency. The wood meeting table doubles as a dining table, complemented by stylish circular ceiling lamps that add a touch of elegance to the brown-toned space.

The Iox design project was completed on April 1, 2017, in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. Extensive research and attention to detail went into the design process. The balcony extension on the fourth floor was transformed into the eldest son's room, inspired by his love for the X-Men movie. The room features a rotating TV that separates the study area from the bedroom, with fair-concrete walls creating a delicate and alluring gray-toned space. The use of X-shaped lights above the headboard and silver lines on the black veneer wardrobes accentuate the X element in the room's design. On the fifth floor, the youngest son's room is adorned with skateboards, reflecting his passion for the sport and creating a personalized and exclusive space.

The Iox design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate resourcefulness, technical skill, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
