Imbued with the essence of time and memory, Tang Chung-Han's 'The Wrinkles of Time' is a residential design project that stands apart. The design draws its inspiration from the weathering of old woods and rusted iron, embodying the passage of time and the sentimental moments shared by a family. The design weaves these elements together, creating an uneven, layered setting that reflects the axis of time.
The design's unique properties lie in its innovative use of space and materials. Displacing masses and dividing primary and secondary settings, the design features uneven ceilings of different heights and a crisscrossing of materials. A penetrating circulation guides the vision, creating a sense of migration and lingering. The hallway, rather than ending when the path does, depicts the trajectory of time.
Horizontal and vertical elements come together in the design, with the gentleness and simplicity of wooden ceilings emphasizing the magnificence of the stone main wall. The kitchen island, made of various materials, divides the living room and the dining room, while also connecting primary and secondary spaces. From the public space to the private, wooden grilles transition into a titanium door arch, linking the past and the future.
The design symbolizes the connection of past memories, living in the moment, and welcoming the future. The bond of the family is reflected in the transformation of materials, with the patterns of the rusted plates and the simplicity of the old wood changing with the passage of time. This creates a record of the family's bond to the space.
It's no surprise that 'The Wrinkles of Time' was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious accolade is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
In conclusion, Tang Chung-Han's 'The Wrinkles of Time' is a testament to the designer's ability to create a unique residential space that not only serves its functional purpose but also tells a story of time, memory, and family bonds. It's a design that truly deserves its Silver A' Design Award.
