Revolutionizing Stage Design: An Award-Winning Innovation

Sets and Props SMP's Stage for an Award Presentation: A Masterpiece of Flexibility and Aesthetics

Sets and Props SMP, a renowned stage design team, has created a unique stage for an award presentation that has won the prestigious Silver A' Performing Arts, Stage, Style and Scenery Design Award in 2017. This article explores the design process, unique features, and the inspiration behind this innovative creation.

The team at Sets and Props SMP was inspired by the need to create a stage that matched the quality of the awards being presented and provided a state-of-the-art environment for various presentations. The stage was designed to be unique and flexible, capable of hosting a music show, awards presentations, and presentations of achievements. The team achieved this flexibility through the use of internally lit set pieces, which allowed for a variety of looks and atmospheres.

The stage was brought to life by a team of eight specialists in the Sets and Props SMP shop. Equipped with several CNC machines and a robot with 8-axis for 360-degree cuts, the team built internally lit set pieces using materials such as Styrofoam, wood, Aluminum, and LEDs. The set pieces were designed to be easily assembled on site, enabling a load-in of just one day.

The design process was not without its challenges. The team had to ensure that the stage looked exactly like the design, was cost-efficient to ship, and could be set up within a day on site. The biggest challenge, however, was integrating the different looks of the presentations in a way that each presentation looked distinct, but with minimal set piece change-outs during the event. This was achieved through the use of internal lighting and reducing the width of the set pieces so that other pieces could fly in, quickly changing the look of the stage.

The stage was designed and built in Los Angeles and shipped to the event location in Florida. It took the sets shop one month to produce all parts of the stage and get them shipped. The stage was used for an annual, non-profit event held on the 11th of March at Ruth Eckert Hall in Clearwater, Florida.

The design of the stage was recognized with the Silver A' Performing Arts, Stage, Style and Scenery Design Award in 2017. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to the team's strong technical skills, artistic abilities, and commitment to excellence.

In conclusion, the stage designed by Sets and Props SMP is a testament to the power of innovation and creativity in stage design. It showcases how a well-thought-out design can not only meet practical requirements but also create a visually stunning and flexible environment for a variety of presentations. This design sets a new standard for stage design and serves as an inspiration for future designers.
