Horsetopia - Run Fast/Live Slow

Eco-Friendly Horse Park in South Korea

Horsetopia is an innovative eco-friendly horse park located in Yeongcheon, South Korea. Designed by Vicky Chan, this park aims to provide a unique experience for visitors by combining fast-paced horse racing with slow-paced horse-related activities. With its sustainable design and focus on nature, Horsetopia offers a refreshing alternative to traditional amusement parks.

Spanning over 1,474,883 square meters, Horsetopia is divided into two main sections. Half of the site is dedicated to horse racing, while the other half is reserved for various horse-related activities. This combination allows visitors to enjoy the thrill of horse racing and also engage with horses in a more relaxed and intimate setting.

One of the key strengths of Horsetopia is its commitment to sustainability. The park incorporates various eco-friendly features and technologies to minimize its environmental impact. For instance, 100% of the path lighting is powered by on-site wind turbines, reducing the reliance on traditional energy sources. Additionally, 95% of the earth excavated during construction is reused on-site, minimizing waste. The park also utilizes a terraced bioswale system to remove water pollutants and increase biodiversity.

Another notable feature of Horsetopia is its innovative lighting solution, which aims to reduce light pollution and maintain the natural ambiance of the park. This attention to detail creates a serene and immersive environment for visitors to enjoy.

Horsetopia's design and concept were driven by a desire to cater to urban customers from Asia who seek responsible travel options and alternative lifestyles. The park offers a range of "fast" and "slow" zones, appealing to different age groups and interests. By combining social, entertaining, and environmental design elements, Horsetopia aims to elevate the status of horse racing and promote it as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional amusement rides.

The development of Horsetopia was not without its challenges. The design team had to balance the park's environmental friendliness with its financial viability. A multi-disciplinary approach, involving architects, landscape designers, engineers, marketing experts, and lighting designers, was crucial in overcoming these challenges and ensuring the park's success.

Since its inception in May 2016, Horsetopia has garnered recognition and acclaim. In 2017, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Landscape Planning and Garden Design category. This prestigious award recognizes the park's outstanding design, creativity, and contribution to improving the quality of life.

Horsetopia offers a unique and sustainable approach to horse parks, providing visitors with an unforgettable experience that combines the excitement of horse racing with the tranquility of horse-related activities. With its commitment to eco-friendliness and innovative design, Horsetopia sets a new standard for theme parks and showcases the harmonious coexistence of nature and entertainment.
