Brooklyn Laundreel: A Revolution in Indoor Laundry Solutions

Tomohiro Horibe's Innovative Design Solves Modern Laundry Challenges

In a world where outdoor drying is increasingly challenging due to pollution, privacy issues, and lifestyle changes, the Brooklyn Laundreel by Tomohiro Horibe offers a unique and effective indoor solution. This innovative design, smaller than a paperback book, provides a compact, clean, and efficient way to dry laundry indoors, without damaging clothes or using excess energy.

Tomohiro Horibe's inspiration for the Brooklyn Laundreel came from the difficulties of drying laundry outdoors in modern times. Issues such as air pollution, hay fever, sudden squalls, privacy concerns in urban areas, and late-night work schedules have made outdoor drying less feasible. The solution, a laundry belt for interior use, is not only energy-saving but also prevents clothes from shrinking or being damaged, a common problem with dry machines.

The Brooklyn Laundreel stands out for its unique properties. Its compact body, smaller than a paperback book, has a clean, all-white finish with no sharp edges or visible screws. The belt, which can be pulled out and locked at any length up to 4 meters, has 29 holes that can each hold a coat hanger. The belt's maximum load is 15 kg, making it a robust solution for indoor laundry drying.

The realization of this design involved careful selection of materials and technology. The belt, the most crucial part of the design, is made from conveyor belt material used in food factories. It is HACCP certified and treated with antibacterial and anti-mold polyurethane, making it safe, clean, and strong. The internal body features a strong aluminum die-casting gear and a spring that has passed a durability test of over 10,000 times.

The Brooklyn Laundreel is simple to use. When needed, pull out the belt and lock it at the desired length. Its compact and simple design fits any room, making it a versatile addition to any home. This innovative solution not only saves energy but also keeps clothes in good condition, preventing damage or shrinkage common with electric dryers.

Tomohiro Horibe's Brooklyn Laundreel is a testament to innovative design and practical solutions. It started as a project in Tokyo in October 2011 and was completed in April 2013. The design was awarded the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2018, a testament to its outstanding, trendsetting creation that reflects the designer's wisdom and talent. The Brooklyn Laundreel is not just a product; it's a revolution in indoor laundry solutions, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with its desirable characteristics.
