Reviving Tradition: Jinke JiuQu River House

Wang Chao and Yue Xiaorui's Modern Take on Chinese Traditional Elements

The design inspiration behind the Jinke JiuQu River House was to better elaborate on Chinese traditional elements in modern residential design. Mountains, rivers, liquor, tea, pines, Guqin, cloud, wind, and moon are Chinese traditional elements frequently used in poems. Wang Chao and Yue Xiaorui decided to design a project that seamlessly integrates these elements into a modern context.

The uniqueness of this design lies in its return to simplicity. The designers have left behind cumbersome systems and focused on retaining the soul of Chinese design in the lives of contemporary individuals. The house, spanning 990 square meters, is a testament to the successful integration of Chinese design and modern life, with Chinese style at its core.

The realization of this design was achieved through the use of materials such as leather, cloth art, crystal, and wool carpet. Each material was carefully selected to contribute to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the house. The design team, including Wang Chao, Yue Xiaorui, Li Xian, and Wang Yuexiang, worked tirelessly to ensure that the design was not only beautiful but also practical.

The project, located in the Jiuqu River in Chongqing, China, started in April 2017 and was completed in July 2017. The design team faced the challenge of harmoniously fitting the nine Chinese elements into the design while still providing the comfort of modern lifestyle. Despite these challenges, the team was able to create a design that gives a complete feeling of traditional Chinese design while highlighting the temperament of China.

The Jinke JiuQu River House has been recognized for its innovative design, receiving the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
