Interior Design that Emphasizes Modern Atmosphere and Natural Light

Chien-Ling Liu, the renowned designer behind the "Sunlight" café in Taipei City, Taiwan, has transformed a 10-year-old house into a modern and inviting space. With a focus on interior design, this café stands out for its unique features and attention to detail.

The inspiration for the design came from the desire to create a modern atmosphere while maximizing the use of natural light. Liu carefully examined the marketing strategy and physical conditions of the space, ultimately suggesting a design plan that included a bigger balcony and ample sunlight to appeal to customers.

The café's location adjacent to a park provides a great view, and the expanded balcony attracts attention from passersby. The sizable windows installed by Liu create intensive visual interactions between the indoor and outdoor spaces, enlarging the indoor area and making the café feel more spacious.

The "Sunlight" café spans 100 square meters and features Japanese-style elements such as tatamis and sliding doors. These design choices set the main tone as Japanese and create a calming and inviting atmosphere for visitors. The café's interior is adorned with plain structures, including aluminum windows, storage cabinets, and furniture, which consistently emphasize the café's main background.

One of the notable challenges faced during the design process was incorporating Japanese-style paintings and artworks that would fascinate pedestrians. The café's people-oriented design aims to soothe the nerves of individuals living in the stressful urban environment, providing a peaceful sanctuary where they can relax and enjoy their time.

The "Sunlight" café, completed in December 2016, has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2018. This prestigious award acknowledges the café's creativity, resourcefulness, and incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The "Sunlight" café contributes to improving the quality of life and making the world a better place.
