Crystal Bay: A New Definition of Luxury

Bluemoon Design's Villa Project Breaks Traditional Conceptions

Crystal Bay, a villa project by Bluemoon Design, redefines luxury by integrating modern design languages with traditional sentiments. The project, located in Sanya, China, started in 2016 and was completed in September 2017. The designers aimed to create a dream place that transcends customary experience, making a breakthrough in the sense of security endowed by conventional conceptions and traditional standards.

The unique properties of the Crystal Bay project lie in its innovative use of unvarnished materials such as old wood, rough linen, and batik. These materials generate extraordinary charm in the design, creating spaces that are full of traditional ambience but also exude carefree and easy feelings. The use of these materials breaks the definition of luxury as defined by most people, showcasing the strengths and unique features of the design.

The realization of the design was achieved through the use of glass sliding doors for easy access from various directions while bringing the green landscape in the courtyard into view. The coarse fabric of the carpet is well matched with the bright red color which shows primitive beauty as is the earth. The wall on one side is designed like a doorway, made of cement in dark color, the wall appears unvarnished and calm, displaying the innocent nature and imposing air of the space.

The space appears grand and spacious with the interior and exterior landscape being continuous and changing. The boundary between indoor and outdoor is broken, allowing more freedom for life. The designer spares no efforts in exploring the design so that not even a small corner is ignored. Artistic nature exists in every corner of the room which is not limited by the physical boundary. It is shown both inside and outside the painting, on both the upper and lower wall. The power of art pours out from them.

The project faced challenges due to the anxiety of the market and the fickleness and eagerness for quick success and instant benefits under the influence of Western culture. However, the designers believed that more attention was needed to achieve a better design. They aimed to create a happy society and improve the aesthetic level of the users, rather than indulging in mediocre quality.

The Crystal Bay project was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
