Ink Stone: A Unique Fusion of Art and Culture

zhu rineng's Award-Winning Poster Design Inspired by Chinese Tradition

Unveiling the unique poster design 'Ink Stone' by zhu rineng, a remarkable blend of traditional Chinese culture and modern design techniques, awarded Silver in A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2018.

zhu rineng's 'Ink Stone' is a promotional poster design that stands out for its unique approach. The design is a testament to the power of repetition and accumulation, key practices in Chinese culture. Drawing inspiration from the ancient art practices, zhu rineng has managed to create a design that is both in-depth and delicate, achieved through constant repetition and accumulation of experience.

The uniqueness of the 'Ink Stone' lies in its use of ink, a tool unique to China. The design process involved repeatedly writing on the work, overlaying the writing hundreds of times. This process, akin to the superposition of time, resulted in a clear varnish that reflects a rich and colorful light. The design is a representation of the process of self-cultivation, reminiscent of the traditional Chinese style room - ink and inkstone, honed through thousands of years of experience.

The 'Ink Stone' was realized using paper, printing, and stamping techniques. The final product measures 700mmX1000mm. The design process involved smearing ink on the paper, repeated numerous times to record the changes in the combination of ink and paper. This technique resulted in a visually pleasing effect, combining Chinese characters with black superimposed ink.

The project began in Foshan in August 2017 and was displayed at the Asian Design Biennale in Shanghai in December 2017. The design process was not without its challenges. The pursuit of repetition and accumulation allowed zhu rineng to explore new stages of work and life. The result is a new form that is completely different from what existed before.

The 'Ink Stone' design is a testament to zhu rineng's innovative approach to design, blending traditional Chinese culture with modern design techniques. The design was awarded Silver in A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2018, a testament to its creativity, technical prowess, and artistic skill. The award is given to designs that showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
