Club Tao: A New Dimension in Restaurant Design

Devesh Pratyay's Innovative Design Wins Silver A' Design Award

Club Tao's design is inspired by the concept of integral space. As the demand for restaurant spaces decreases due to oversupply, Pratyay's design offers a unique solution that has quickly become the talk of the town. The restaurant and bar feature an openable roof on a courtyard space, creating a feeling of dining under the sky and allowing natural light to permeate the space. This innovative design approach, coupled with the enclosed space, is segregated by light rather than physical partitions.

Key features of Club Tao include an extensive bar with mirror cladding that creates an illusion of a larger space, and an oversized 70's television set. The television wall is further accentuated with green wall plantations on each side, adding an element of nature to the design. The entry to the space is through a small foyer and a long corridor that offers glimpses of the lounge. The open courtyard with the bar and a private dining area cordoned off by MS railing offers a variety of seating options.

The openable roof is a motorized panel system constructed using MS tubes and channels and covered with polycarbonate sheets. The flooring is done in tile and the walls have been left blank with plain cement punning. The restaurant, spread over a total area of 300 sq.mt. on a single level, can accommodate 150 covers.

The design project, which started in April 2017 and was completed in December 2017, is located in sector 26, Chandigarh, India. Pratyay and his team conducted extensive research to create the openable roof panels spanning a size of over 12 meters in width. The key creative challenge in this project was to maintain the feel of an open space despite being surrounded by built spaces all around.

Club Tao's design, which was awarded Silver in A' Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design Award in 2018, is admired for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill. The design showcases a remarkable level of excellence and innovation, introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs.
