The "Nomads" collection is unique in its use of unconventional materials for jewellery art, such as bronze and recycled fur. It incorporates spontaneous findings like buttons, a nod to the handcrafted rough jewellery of nomads. The collection includes a wireframe monoearring, chains and buttons monoearring, wheel-shaped wireframe earrings, torus rings, and a necklace with recycled fur.
Komov's design process involved a deep dive into the aesthetics and functionality of ancient jewellery pieces found in museum collections. The result is a sensoric and philosophical collection that is non-glamorous yet deeply evocative of the spirit of nomads. The main challenge faced by Komov was to cast aside the decorative parts of historical jewellery pieces to make the design look contemporary and laconic.
The "Nomads" collection was created using bronze, gold plating, recycled fur, chains, hammer-texturing, and welding. The pieces vary in size, with dimensions ranging from 40 mm x 2 mm x 110 mm to 225 mm x 22 mm x 405 mm. The project started in August 2017 and was completed in June 2018 in Moscow, Russia.
Assisting Komov in this project were Katerina Komova and Yuri Zotov. The chains used for connecting parts of a jewellery piece allow the whole construction to hang freely, adding movement and dynamism to the pieces. The collection is tagged with keywords such as ancient, nomadic, historic, brutal, rough, and handcrafted, encapsulating its essence.
The "Nomads" collection is a testament to Komov's innovative approach to design, merging the old with the new, the conventional with the unconventional, and the rough with the refined. It is a celebration of the spirit of nomads, their resourcefulness, and their unique aesthetic sensibilities. The collection's Iron A' Design Award is a recognition of its design excellence, practicality, and innovation.
