Designer Lulu Cheng Creates a Green Oasis Amidst Urban Chaos

Lulu Cheng's design philosophy is deeply rooted in user interaction and communication. The concept of Xanadu was born out of the users' desire for a peaceful, retired life. The design is a testament to Cheng's ability to translate user needs into tangible design elements, creating spaces that enhance their lifestyle.

The uniqueness of Xanadu lies in its ability to offer seclusion amidst the urban chaos. Drawing inspiration from a Chinese poet's life philosophy, Cheng has designed an entrance that extends the landscape pavement from indoors to outdoors, serving as an emotional transition. At the center of the space, a three-sided transparent flower room connects the public and private areas, offering an exquisite green view throughout the living and bedroom areas.

Constructed with materials like wood veneer, solid wood, and stone, Xanadu spans 126 square meters. The design features a sky garden, a unique element that posed a significant challenge. The garden is created by planting living epiphytic plants on dry trunks, bringing a piece of the sky indoors. This green box serves as a flexible space, adding a touch of nature to the urban dwelling.

The project, which started in December 2017 and was completed in June 2018, is located in Taichung City, Taiwan. Xanadu is a result of meticulous spatial planning and organizing, creating harmonious spaces that offer a distinctive way of living. The design has been recognized for its innovation and creativity, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019.
