Endless Stay: A Harmonious Blend of Architecture and Nature

Architects Tsung-Ju Lu and Wei-Chen Huang's Award-Winning Resort Design

In the heart of Mt. Lu, nestled amidst cascading waterfalls, lies a unique architectural marvel - The Endless Stay. This resort, designed by Tsung-Ju Lu and Wei-Chen Huang, is a testament to the harmonious blend of architecture and nature. The design, inspired by the flowing water and layered landscape, is a series of stacked boxes, each offering a unique perspective and a private retreat.

The Endless Stay is not just another resort. It is a carefully crafted space that can accommodate up to 120 residents across 24 households. Each building layer, composed of boxes, uses both horizontal and vertical visual displacement to create varying spatial experiences. The resort is subtly hidden within the mountain, offering a tranquil escape from the bustling world. The layered structure of the building guides visitors to shift their perspectives, while the grille windows mimic the flow of spring water and allow sunlight to create a sense of fluidity. These windows also serve to protect the privacy of the residents.

The design of the resort is rooted in environmental consciousness. The building and main walls are constructed using local materials and stones, reducing transportation waste. Even the grille windows are made from aluminum, further emphasizing the designers' commitment to sustainability. The resort spans a total area of 4777.5 square meters, with each unit varying from 2 to 5 floors in height.

The Endless Stay is more than just a place to stay; it is an experience. The design concept responds to the hidden location, offering a pause from modern life and an opportunity to enjoy the surrounding mountain views. The use of environmentally friendly materials further enhances the connection to nature. The unique 'box' houses provide a distinctive living experience, encouraging residents to view life from different angles.

The design project, completed in 2018 in Jiangxi, China, was born out of the need for a retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. The designers sought to create a space where residents could reconnect with nature and rejuvenate their minds. The biggest challenge was to maintain a stable structure for the building while designing harmonious angle relations for the stacked houses. The result is a design that guides people to change their thinking and offers a completely different state of mind.

The Endless Stay was recognized for its innovative design and was awarded Silver in the A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, creativity, and innovation. The Endless Stay, with its unique design and environmental consciousness, certainly fits the bill.
