Zhuhai Hengqin CRCC Plaza Project: A New Era of Urban Architecture

Aedas' Innovative Design Wins Golden A' Architecture Award

Located on Zhuhai Hengqin island, an increasingly open and creative city development zone, the project is a reflection of the city's character. The design features a sky bridge, reminiscent of a raining cloud, a common weather feature of Zhuhai city. This sky bridge, wrapping around the towers, offers more connections between the four towers on sky lobby levels.

What sets the Hengqin CRCC Plaza apart is its signature sky bridge, symbolising integration, connection, and communication. It links all four towers within the development, offering office, retail and leisure facilities as well as outdoor terraces. The orientation of the buildings maximises the site and surroundings, with the two taller Grade-A office towers occupying the southeast and northeast corners of the site, standing at road intersections with better land values and views.

The project is positioned as a signature attraction for Zhu Hai, envisaged as a three-dimensional vertical landscape for the future central business district. The complex is expected to use the signature skybridge to create more loops horizontally and vertically throughout the site. The gross floor area of the project is 200,700 sqm, with a land area of 34542.97 sqm.

The design offers users more opportunities to explore the functions of outdoor terraces on the sky bridge and podium. It allows easy communication with surrounding users and flexible integration between office and retail. The sky bridge also offers users a fantastic view of Macao. The project started in September 2018 and is expected to be completed in December 2022.

The design faced creative, technical, and research challenges. The signature sky bridge integrates the retail podium loop with two glass elevators at the corner of two super high-rise towers from the retail ground floor to the office sky lobby, creating more loops horizontally and vertically throughout the site. Despite these challenges, the design has been recognised for its innovation, winning the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2019.
