Unveiling the Oka Eye: A Masterpiece in Exhibition Stand Design

Exploring the Genius Behind Marek Maciuba's Award-Winning Design

Delve into the creative process behind the Oka Eye, an exhibition stand that encapsulates the essence of design innovation. This article explores the unique features, inspiration, and realization of this award-winning project by Marek Maciuba.

The Oka Eye, a standout design by Marek Maciuba, is an exhibition stand that embodies the creative process behind innovative design. Inspired by the "flash of genius" that sparks new creative concepts, the Oka Eye serves as a visually striking metaphor for the acceleration of ideas in the minds of designers.

The stand's form and structure illustrate the creative workflow of a design-driven company. A semi-transparent facade, supported by wooden slats labeled with expressive key values, converges at the stand's center, leading to the semi-circular entrance area. This design element mirrors the journey from an initial idea to a finished piece of furniture.

The stand's concept is realized through a half-transparent facade created with printed mesh, representing the creative state of mind of the people at Oka. Wooden laths and text concepts spread randomly on the facade, condensing and becoming denser as they reach the entrance where they are sucked inside. This entrance serves as a metaphor for the pivotal moment in the creative process where ideas are sparked and accelerated, resulting in the brilliant design of Oka furniture.

The stand interacts with visitors by inviting them to step inside through the eye entrance and discover the world of Oka furniture. The transparent facade, adorned with key claims shaping the performance of a design-driven company, hides the actual furniture, piquing visitors' curiosity and encouraging them to explore further. Inside, the stand is divided into five zones: an open space for furniture display, a special exhibition of the Oka Europe collection, a chill-out zone, a closed conference room, and a VR room showcasing virtually designed spaces with Oka furniture.

The design process for the Oka Eye was a response to the challenge of showcasing the product from the perspective of the design process. The stand was designed to illustrate the creative mind's journey, from the initial juggling of thoughts, ideas, and inspirations to the flash of genius that results in a great furniture design. This creative process is encapsulated in the stand's entrance, where all elements are drawn in by the design force, reflecting the curvature of space.

The Oka Eye is more than just an exhibition stand. It is a testament to the power of design and the creative process, earning it the Platinum A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing and push the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.
