Rainbow Kindergarten: A Colorful Space for Joyful Learning

A Kindergarten Designed by Ching Wen Huang

Rainbow Kindergarten, designed by Ching Wen Huang, stands out as a unique and vibrant space for young learners. Located in Chupei City, Taiwan, this four-floor building captures the essence of joy and playfulness through its colorful design.

The main building, painted in pure white, serves as a canvas for the explosion of colors and patterns that adorn its exterior. Each three-dimensional opening showcases a variety of shapes and colors, creating a striking contrast between stability and vividness. The thick window frames extend inside, embedding light fixtures that further enhance the vibrant atmosphere. The colors of the glass are carefully selected to respond to different weather conditions, creating an ever-changing visual experience for the children.

Stone, imported tile, and iron were the primary materials used in the realization of this design. The meticulous attention to detail and the waterproof treatment ensure that the building remains not only visually stunning but also functional and durable.

One of the standout features of Rainbow Kindergarten is the curving corridor in the courtyard, serving as the main entrance. This covered corridor connects to a temporary parking area, providing a convenient space for parents to pick up their children, rain or shine. The slanted columns supporting the awnings add an element of playfulness to the design, further reinforcing the kindergarten's joyful atmosphere.

By incorporating the concept of the rainbow, Ching Wen Huang aimed to create an environment where children can learn and grow in a happy and joyful atmosphere. The rainbow, often seen as a symbol of an agreement between God and humanity, serves as a reminder of the importance of harmony and positivity.

Rainbow Kindergarten was completed in May 2018 and has since garnered recognition for its innovative design. In 2019, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements.

With Rainbow Kindergarten, Ching Wen Huang has created a space that goes beyond traditional educational environments, providing children with a colorful and joyful place to learn, grow, and explore.
