Logotype SETMA

Designing a Harmonious Representation of Jijoca de Jericoacoara

The SETMA, Municipal’s Tourism and Environment Secretariat of Jijoca de Jericoacoara, brand represents the harmonious landscape and natural wonders of the city, from the Blue Lagoon, the Serrote, the Pierced Stone, the Sea and the iconic Sunset on the Dunes. The designer unified all these elements in a harmonious form with the use of sine waves curved elements, which represent the frequency, balance and equilibrium between all the natural beauty and experience the city provides, deemed beautiful by their residents and many visitors around the world.

The logotype SETMA, designed by Mateus Matos Montenegro, captures the essence of Jijoca de Jericoacoara, a municipality known for its natural wonders and breathtaking landscapes. Inspired by the lagoon, serrote, pierced stone, sea, and the iconic sunset on the dunes, the logotype aims to represent everything that the city offers to its tourists and visitors.

To unify all these elements, Montenegro used harmonious curved sine-wave elements. These elements symbolize the frequency, balance, harmony, and equilibrium between the city's natural beauty and the transcendent experience it provides. The logotype is a visual representation of paradise, expressing the unique and wonderful moments of happiness and peace that can be found in Jijoca de Jericoacoara.

The logotype SETMA stands out from others due to its expressive yet light and harmonious design. It captures the essence of what the municipality and its environment represent to all those who enjoy its beauty. The logotype showcases the five colorful natural elements that unify and represent the city, transformed into icons and unified using harmonious sine wave curves. These curves imply that all the elements are part of one environment, overlapping and connecting with each other.

The realization of the logotype involved careful consideration of the technical specifications. The design team ensured that the logotype accurately represented the city's natural elements and their connection to each other. The project started in January 2018 and was completed in March 2018.

The main challenge in the creative process was to find a way to create a design that was simple yet represented the entire city, its environment, and the feeling of freedom and connection with nature. The design team found this harmony in the sine waves, which symbolize the interconnectedness of all life. Just as we are all made of energy waves that resonate with each other and our environment, the logotype SETMA resonates with the harmonious landscape and natural wonders of Jijoca de Jericoacoara.

The logotype SETMA has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2019, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life. The logotype SETMA exemplifies the best practices in art, science, design, and technology, making Jijoca de Jericoacoara an even more captivating destination for visitors from around the world.
