Bringing Nature Indoors: The OTC Office Design by VOATT Design Studio

An Elegant and Unique Workspace Inspired by Nature

Located on the 20th floor of a sail-shaped building in Taichung, Taiwan, the OTC office stands out with its irregular polygon shape. To make the most of this space, VOATT Design Studio proposed using arc walls as the axis, creating a space that allows for more mobility and preserves the sunlight and air. The combination of maple arc walls and slate tiles creates an elegant and unique workspace that seamlessly blends with the surrounding scenery.

One of the key strengths of this design is the use of natural materials. VOATT Design Studio chose materials with natural patterns to make the office visually abundant. Slate tiles were used for the floor, while maple and walnut were used for the arc walls and grille. The office is furnished with oak and rosewood furniture, creating a space that exudes warmth and originality. The presence of plants throughout the office not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but also helps reduce airborne pollutants, creating a healthier indoor environment.

With an area of only 86 square meters, the OTC office manages to bring nature indoors in a remarkable way. The 280 cm maple arc walls not only provide privacy for each workspace but also maintain the openness of the original space. This allows for a seamless flow of sunlight, air, and nature throughout the office, creating a refreshing and energizing atmosphere.

The design process for the OTC office involved meticulous research and attention to detail. VOATT Design Studio worked closely with the client to understand their need for a workspace that combines creativity and comfort. The use of natural, local, and environment-friendly materials was a key aspect of the design concept. The studio even created a 1:1 scale layout to simulate the ambiance of the office, allowing the client to experience the actual size and comfort of the space.

Overcoming the challenges posed by the irregular polygon shape of the office was another feat for VOATT Design Studio. The team managed to reduce the space of passage while ensuring that sunlight flows into every area. This allows each user to feel connected to nature and sunlight without being restricted by space, while also maintaining privacy for everyone.

It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019.
