The Massey Tower, a 60-storey condominium planned for Theatre Row in Downtown Toronto, is set to redefine luxury living in the city. What sets it apart is its unique sales centre, designed by the renowned firm Cecconi Simone and housed within the adjacent Canadian Bank of Commerce building. This historic landmark will be restored and integrated into the base of the condominium, creating a seamless blend of old-world charm and contemporary design.
The 432 m² sales centre showcases the perfect harmony between period and contemporary design. Original interior elements of the former bank have been preserved, while new elements have been added to extend its functionality as a showroom. The result is a space that maintains the historic integrity of the building while relating to its present-day purpose.
One of the standout features of the sales centre is the refurbished heritage entry, which boasts original mosaics and mouldings. To enhance the space, cocoon-like pendant lights and a custom, cold-rolled steel and antique-mirror reception desk have been installed. These elements will be repositioned in the residence upon its completion, ensuring a seamless transition from the sales centre to the actual living spaces.
The main gallery of the sales centre is a sight to behold. Accessed through velvet swag drapes, it is a spacious and open area that is divided into functional zones without the need for partitions. Custom mouldings, trompe-l’oeil wall-panels, and custom furnishings delineate different areas, while an elaborate mosaic in-the-round, uncovered during the showroom’s construction, adds a touch of grandeur. All of these elements will be re-mounted and re-used in the future condominium, ensuring a consistent design language throughout.
The model suite in the sales centre offers a glimpse into the luxurious living experience that awaits residents of The Massey Tower. It seamlessly combines modern design with traditional motifs, creating a space that is both contemporary and timeless. Custom millwork with applied decoration, antique-inspired furniture with a simplified, graphic appearance, and a subdued palette of finishes all come together to create a harmonious and elegant living environment.
What sets this design apart is the attention to detail and the fusion of contemporary and traditional elements. Custom fixtures and furnishings, all locally made, embody the spirit of the project. From the custom reception desk made from cold-rolled steel and antique-bronze mirror to the period-inspired closing tables clad in etched mirror with silver leaf trim, every piece has been carefully crafted to enhance the overall aesthetic.
The Massey Tower sales centre and model suite have received recognition for their outstanding design. In 2013, they were awarded the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award recognizes designs that showcase exceptional expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, leaving a lasting impression on all who experience them.
The Massey Tower's sales centre is a testament to the vision and creativity of Cecconi Simone. By seamlessly blending history with modernity, they have created a space that not only showcases the upcoming condominium but also pays homage to the rich heritage of Toronto. As the city continues to evolve, The Massey Tower stands as a symbol of the harmonious coexistence of the past and the future.
