San Liang Jiang: A Blend of History, Culture, and Design

Wen Liu and Xianwen Wu's Award-Winning Beverage Design Inspired by Ancient Chinese Civilization

San Liang Jiang, a unique beverage design by Wen Liu and Xianwen Wu, is a testament to the rich and mysterious culture of China's oldest civilization, San Xing Dui. This design, which won the Platinum A' Packaging Design Award in 2020, combines modern aesthetics with historical elements, offering consumers a unique, interactive experience.

The design of San Liang Jiang is inspired by the "Bronze Human Face," an antique from San Xing Dui. The designers have seamlessly integrated this ancient artifact with the bottle body, creating a noble and mysterious effect. The use of ceramic as the raw material and black as the main visual color further enhances this effect. The moderate size of the bottle makes it easy to handle, adding to its practicality.

What sets San Liang Jiang apart from other designs is its deep connection to the culture of San Xing Dui, a civilization with a history spanning thousands of years. The cultural sites of San Xing Dui were discovered through continuous exploration and excavation, and their rich cultural connotation and mystery inspired the creation of this liquor. The design not only serves as a beverage container but also as a representation of Chinese history and culture.

The realization of this design involved the use of various materials and techniques. The packaging box is made of a convex tin box, while the bottle is made of ceramic and decorated with spray paint and gold stamp. The bottle cover is also made of ceramic, maintaining the overall aesthetic and feel of the design. The packaging box measures 250mm in length, 175mm in width, and 100mm in height.

One of the unique features of San Liang Jiang is its interactive nature. The box includes archaeological excavation tools such as small shovels, brushes, and hammers. The bottle is wrapped with a clay-like material, allowing the customer to experience the process of excavating cultural relics. The upper part of the bottle can be used as a cup, and the whole can serve as a cultural relic decoration, enhancing the practicality, functionality, and appreciation of the design.

The project, which started in January 2019 and was completed in March 2019 in Shenzhen, faced several challenges. These included determining the type of box and bottle display, controlling costs, and enhancing the relationship between the product and the customer. However, through further research and improvement, the designers were able to overcome these challenges and create a design that truly embodies the culture of San Xing Dui.

San Liang Jiang is not just a beverage design; it is an experience that transports the consumer to the ancient civilization of San Xing Dui. It is a testament to the power of design in bridging the gap between the past and the present, between history and modernity. It is a design that truly deserves its Platinum A' Packaging Design Award.
