Art Deco Glamour Meets Modern Sophistication in Karson Liu's Award-Winning Design

The Crown's design was inspired by the establishment's name and the connotations associated with it. The preciousness, lavishness, and luxuriousness of a crown, along with the client's desire for a high-end establishment, fueled the design process. The Art Deco style was chosen as the design vehicle, aligning perfectly with the intended characteristics of the lounge.

The Crown stands out for its unique location and extravagant decor. Situated on the 25th floor and rooftop of the Emperor Hotel Hong Kong, it offers an indulgent getaway where class, music, and entertainment converge. The lounge is filled with refined decor and exuberant glamour, featuring a full floor with a performance stage, velvet booths, multipurpose private rooms, and a rooftop terrace, bringing sky-high sophistication and intimate luxury straight from the 1920s.

The realization of The Crown's design was a feat of technical prowess. The construction process involved overcoming several challenges due to the vast selection of materials used, including marble, glass, and metal inlays. Precise measurement and preparation were critical, especially for the curved hallway where all these materials needed to align perfectly. The final installation required several attempts to fit the curved mirrors with the marble pieces and inlays.

The Crown spans a total area of 6000 square feet, split into two levels. The main areas of the establishment are located on the 25th floor and the rooftop, each spanning 3000 square feet. Guests are greeted with the Main Lounge, which includes the Crown Bar, the Stage, Lounge, and Velvet Booth areas. The Grand Hallway leads guests deeper into the establishment for a more personalized experience. The Balcony offers a skyline view, while the Velvet Booths provide a space for performances. For extra privacy, VIP Rooms are also available.

The Crown's design was a result of extensive research into Art Deco design, art pieces, geometry, shapes, building materials, and architecture. The aim was to recreate the Art Deco interior with traditional materials and methods in a time-efficient and cost-effective manner. This required many hours of research and meetings with material suppliers and craftsmen to ensure the design was achievable and within budget. The result is a luxurious lounge that embodies the glamour and sophistication of the 1920s, offering guests an unforgettable experience.
