Deconstruction of Door

An Innovative Exhibition Center Design by Robin Wang and Sunny Wang

The Deconstruction of Door is a unique architectural design inspired by the Chinese character "men" (door). This design, created by Robin Wang and Sunny Wang, showcases a deconstructed and refined version of the Chinese character, resulting in a visually striking and spatially hierarchical exhibition center.

The Deconstruction of Door exhibition center is a fusion of wood and glass, creating a futuristic atmosphere that plays with light and shadow. The designers have taken inspiration from the concept of a brand store and transformed it into a sales center, where the architectural elements seamlessly integrate with the overall design.

What sets this design apart is its innovative approach to the concept of a door. Traditionally seen as an entrance or a portal, the designers have extended the idea of a door beyond its functional purpose. By deconstructing the Chinese character "door" and reassembling its strokes, they have created a new and captivating structure.

The realization of this design involves framing the shape of the Chinese character strokes with door elements made of Beech wood. Inlaid lights further enhance the visual impact, creating a sense of depth and dimension. The deconstruction process allows for a unique and unconventional interpretation of the traditional door.

With a total design area of 5801 sq.ft., the Deconstruction of Door exhibition and sales center serves as a platform for a real estate developer. However, it goes beyond its commercial purpose and also functions as a cultural and creative products sales store, creating a more immersive and engaging experience for visitors.

The project, which took place from March 1st, 2019 to September 19th, 2019, was located in the Nanhai area of Foshan city, Guangdong province. Throughout the design process, Robin Wang, Sunny Wang, and Fengzuo Lu conducted extensive research on deconstructing the Chinese character and reorganizing its parts. They collaborated with a structure specialist from GAFA to ensure the structural integrity of the wood parts, using tenon and mortise joints and additional fixing devices.

One of the main challenges faced during the design process was the integration of linear lights into the columns. The designers had to ensure that the lighting did not create a sense of dislocation when reflected under the depiction of point, resulting in a seamless and cohesive design.

The Deconstruction of Door project is a testament to the designers' creativity and their ability to reinterpret traditional elements in a contemporary context. By incorporating the Chinese character "men" into various aspects of the design, such as the ceiling, podium, walls, and display tables, they have created a visually stunning and culturally significant space.
