The House of the Mystic Art is not just a home, but also a live-stream studio for a famous astrologist who hosts a horoscope talk show with celebrity guests. The design of the house is tailored to meet the personal and professional needs of the owner. The uniqueness of this design lies in its dual functionality and the successful transformation of an old apartment into a modern, comfortable living and working space.
The challenges of this project were mainly due to the age of the apartment and its initial poor interior management. The apartment, which is over three decades old, had a maximum height under the beam of just 2.13 m, creating a sense of constraint. However, Ling-Fang Huang managed to give the apartment a new look, introducing more sunlight and greenery into the interior.
The renovation process involved several steps. Firstly, the structure of the old apartment was inspected and aging issues were fixed. The floor plan was then re-planned to solve problems related to movement lines and natural lighting. Different ceiling heights were incorporated into the design to create varying visual experiences. The final step involved the selection and matching of materials and furniture.
The materials used in the renovation include mineral paint, metal members, stone, wood, stainless steel, Japanese tatami, tile, glass, carpet, and plants. The renovated apartment now stands at 2.68 m and covers an area of 152 m². The project started in July 2018 in Taipei, Taiwan, and was completed in April 2019.
The House of the Mystic Art has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and that introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
In conclusion, the House of the Mystic Art is a testament to the possibilities of interior design in transforming old spaces into modern, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environments. It serves as an inspiration for designers and homeowners alike, demonstrating that with creativity and innovation, any space can be transformed to meet specific needs and preferences.
