Boundless Horizon: A Fusion of Art and Architecture

Exploring Tina Sheng's A' Design Award-Winning Sales Center Design

In the realm of design, the intersection of form and function often results in creations that are both aesthetically pleasing and purposeful. Tina Sheng's "Boundless Horizon" project, a sales center design inspired by the natural landscapes of Qingdao, China, is a prime example of this fusion. This design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, embodies the harmony of nature and architecture, offering an immersive experience for its visitors.

The "Boundless Horizon" project draws its inspiration from the continuous peaks and ravines, intersections of mountains and rivers, and the harmony of rivers and seas that characterize the Baisha River basin. This design is a testament to the evolution of the area over thousands of years, reflecting its forthright, primitive, and magnificent beauty. Tina Sheng's creation is more than just a space; it is a container of spirit, carrying not only simple functions but also the pursuit and presentation of spiritual meaning.

What sets this design apart is its unique blend of local geographical and cultural factors of Qingdao. Sheng extracted the element of the ocean, a representative symbol of the city's time-honored culture, and used water and sky as the theme. She successfully condensed the method of Oriental aesthetics and the philosophy and aesthetic consciousness of the universe and nature into the design. Through abstract art, she integrated the artistic conception of modern Oriental aesthetics into the soft decorative design.

The realization of this design was no easy feat. It required creating a scene of urban landscape experience where residents live in prosperity and focus on nature. The design also had to convey the pursuit of poetry and quality of slow life, a concept deeply rooted in Qingdao's culture. The property, spanning 1200 square meters, is a testament to Sheng's ability to transform unprecedented forms and new life concepts into reality.

Upon entering the reception hall, visitors are greeted by simple and elegant art installations and sculptures created by French artist Fresnel. These installations form a unique art piece that implies the trend of “convergence”, and water generates wealth, implying popularity and wealth. The viewer can also experience the fun of interaction. The design's interaction with light is also a key feature, with the change of time endowing the space with different expressions and creating a dialogue between people and the sea.

The "Boundless Horizon" project is a testament to Tina Sheng's innovative approach to design. It is a celebration of the harmony between nature and architecture, a fusion of form and function that offers an immersive experience for its visitors. This design is not just a space; it is a container of spirit, carrying not only simple functions but also the pursuit and presentation of spiritual meaning.
