Elegant Whirling of Wood

Residential Design Inspired by Logs and Traditional Crafts

Inspired by the client's love for logs and traditional crafts, designers Tzu-Yi Yang and Chun Chun Yang have created an elegant residential design that integrates the material itself and the client's wood art collection. The design not only caters to the client's retirement lifestyle but also accommodates the needs of the entire family when they come to visit.

The most striking feature of this project is the utilization of logs purchased by the client, with a diameter of 1.2 meters and a length of 3.6 meters. These logs are prominently displayed in every corner of the living space, creating a harmonious coexistence with the client's future retirement. To enhance the natural texture of the logs, the design adopts a minimalist approach, using black, white, and grey colors as the foundation, complemented by iron elements, glass, and other materials to add depth and create a cozy, natural home.

The realization of this design involves the use of Myanmar teak, mahogany, and other wood logs, customized iron elements, natural stone materials, black mirrors, artificial leather, enamel coating system furniture, wallpaper, tatami mats, laminate flooring, and stained glass.

The interior design covers an area of 117 square meters and includes an entrance, living room, dining room, kitchen, shared bathroom, Japanese tatami room, guest room, second bedroom, master bedroom, dressing room, and main bathroom.

Key design tags for this project include modern, open space, wood log, natural material, and residential design.

In order to create a barrier-free environment, the innermost room has been transformed into a tatami room. This not only brings more natural light into the previously dimly lit hallway but also provides a space for the client and their grandchildren to enjoy. The combination of different materials in the space showcases the spatial aesthetics, maximizing the beauty of the logs while reflecting the client's personality.

The project was completed in September 2018 in Taichung City, Taiwan. The design team conducted extensive research to simplify the design elements and arrange the public space in an open manner, showcasing a bright and clean lifestyle. The careful selection and combination of materials and colors achieved a visual balance and highlighted the client's preferences. Overcoming the challenges posed by the logs, the team successfully utilized them in various design elements, such as the table board of the TV cabinet.

Elegant Whirling of Wood was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, and contributing to a better world.
