The Wild: A Unique Corporate Identity Design for a Luxury Resort

Combining Traditional Chinese Aesthetic with Western Simplicity

The Wild is a brand design for a new luxury resort, built on top of Huangbai mountain in Hunan Province. Designed by Chao Xu, this corporate identity showcases a harmonious blend of traditional Chinese aesthetic and Western simplicity, creating a visually stunning and culturally significant branding design.

The design team drew inspiration from the rich characteristics of wild animals and plants in Huangbai mountain. By extracting the feathers of cranes and using them as a pattern, they created a logo that represents the dream life many people desire - living idle lives like the cloud and wild crane. The crane logo also carries a deeper meaning of artistic conception, symbolizing the resort's commitment to providing a serene and artistic experience for its guests.

What sets this design apart is its ability to form various animals and plants using the same pattern element. By applying this pattern throughout the entire design, the visual identity of The Wild remains unified and harmonious. This unique approach showcases the designer's creativity and attention to detail, making the brand instantly recognizable and memorable.

The realization of this design involved using traditional Chinese painting techniques, specifically ink painting, to create the logo. The simplicity and elegance of the crane logo reflect the resort's commitment to providing a tastefully low-key luxury experience. Additional materials, such as business cards and greeting cards, were produced using gold stamping on special paper, further enhancing the overall luxurious feel.

Technical specifications for the design include a business card size of 90mm x 50mm, a letterhead size of 297mm x 210mm, and a greeting card size of 148mm x 100mm. These specifications were carefully chosen to ensure consistency and professionalism across all branding materials.

The design team faced several challenges during the project. As the resort building was designed by architects from a Western country, it was crucial to seamlessly blend traditional Chinese aesthetic with Western simplicity in the branding design. By overcoming this challenge, the team successfully created a design that reflects the unique cultural fusion of the resort.

The Wild has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2020, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The Wild's design is respected for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.

In conclusion, The Wild's corporate identity design showcases the perfect blend of traditional Chinese aesthetic and Western simplicity. With its unique pattern element derived from the feathers of cranes, this design captures the essence of the luxury resort built on Huangbai mountain. The harmonious and unified visual identity reflects the resort's commitment to providing a serene and artistic experience for its guests, making it a truly exceptional branding design.
