Lei Shing Hong Forest Food Court: A Fusion of Art and Architecture

Jansword Zhu's Award-Winning Design Transforms Office Space into a Tropical Oasis

Jansword Zhu's design was inspired by the building's concept of a city garden. The office building, designed by renowned Japanese architect Kuma Kengo, faces a sunken garden and carries the core concept of a "Forest in the city." Zhu's design, which includes branding and a massive 6m*150m wall art, emerged from this concept.

The wall art is a sub-abstract illustration that brings a balance to the office atmosphere. It is delightful and vibrant, yet not too childish. The use of tropical imagery in the design aims to uplift the spirits of the office workers, especially during Beijing's long winter. The result is a space that not only the office workers but also the surrounding community have come to appreciate and gather around.

The wall art was realized using Ai Software and sub-transparent glass foil. This one-side transparent material ensures that sunshine is not blocked from entering the office. The technical specifications of the design are impressive, with the wall art stretching a staggering 6m*150m.

The design project, which started in May 2019 and was completed in August 2019, was not without its challenges. One of the main challenges was to avoid making the illustration too childish while keeping it vigorous and vivid. The design team, which included Sola Wang, Yuan Wang, Jinn Liu, Lam Lin, and Jansword Zhu himself, managed to overcome this challenge successfully.

The Lei Shing Hong Forest Food Court has been recognized for its unique design and has been awarded the Silver A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2020. The award is given to designs that showcase outstanding expertise, innovation, and a remarkable level of excellence. It is clear that Jansword Zhu's design has not only met these criteria but also brought a breath of fresh air to the office environment in Beijing.
