Delightful: A Chic Homestay Makeover

Revitalizing an Old House for a Unique Stay Experience

This case is a makeover of an old house to equip it with fancy comfy functionalities and a new chic tour style via design; besides, due to the special location of this inn, as it comes to the design ideas, hopefully this inn not only helps the visitors explore and know this community for good social interaction but also serves as a link that reties the bonds between the visitors and the community at a new angle.

Built almost half a century ago, this old house was barely livable due to lack of renovation. However, thanks to the visionary design of Lo Fang Ming, it has been transformed into a delightful homestay that offers both comfort and style. The unique feature of this design lies in its ability to not only provide a cozy stay experience but also foster community interaction.

The makeover of the house began with structural and foundation engineering works to address the sinking floors and unsafe tubes and wires. The designer made strategic changes to the layout, lowering walls and incorporating French windows to create an open and inviting lobby on the first floor. The semi-open garden surrounding the building serves as a transitional space that encourages visitors to explore the local culture while also inviting neighbors to take a break and interact with one another, strengthening community bonds.

Each guestroom in the homestay is designed to offer a separate living room, bathroom, and bedroom, ensuring privacy and comfort. The concept of "Less is More" is applied to the storage and bathroom entrance, resulting in a tidy and minimalist aesthetic. To add a touch of personality, the designer incorporated diverse soft outfits, such as vivid totems and metal trims, to create disparities of styles and themes throughout the space.

The inn's specifications were carefully planned to provide not only a fancy and comfortable stay but also to encourage visitors to explore the surrounding area. The semi-open green garden acts as a divider between the inner and outer spaces, giving a friendly and natural first impression. The lobby, with its bright sunlight and dark veneer, creates a contrast that exudes sophistication. The bedrooms, adorned with vivid soft outfits and exotic totem wallpapers, emanate a chic style that adds to the overall charm of the homestay.

The design of this homestay goes beyond aesthetics and functionality. It aims to foster interaction between the community and the visitors. The garden serves as a medium that connects the two, with lowered walls and open entrances removing the barriers between the inn and the community. This design encourages visitors to get to know the vicinity of the inn, while also inviting neighbors to take a break and engage with others, creating unexpected dynamics and strengthening the bonds between the community and its visitors.

The Delightful homestay project was completed in Taiwan from April to June 2019. Despite the challenges posed by the old building's structural issues and a tight budget, the design team successfully provided a total solution that not only addressed all the problems but also achieved full functionality and a chic style for the inn.

This exceptional design has been recognized and awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of the Delightful homestay, which meets professional and industrial requirements. It is respected for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings to its guests and contributing to a better world.
