Essence of Void: A Sophisticated Residential Project by Studio One

Exploring the True Aesthetic Value and Essence of Being

Derived from the philosophy of Taoism, Essence of Void seeks to minimize artificial interference and emphasize the dialogue between objects and nature. Studio One has meticulously crafted this residential project to reflect the essence of being through its forms and colors, evoking a profound perception and sensation towards the objects themselves.

What sets Essence of Void apart is its tailored design, featuring sophisticated forms and a monochrome scheme with textured materials. This design approach perfectly aligns with the concept of void-essence in simplicity. The project utilizes minimized design volumes to define the space without compromising functionality. Textured materials, carefully selected by Studio One, reflect the project's characteristic expressions that evolve with sunlight and the passage of time.

To realize the vision of openness and cohesiveness within the space, unnecessary architectural walls were removed, allowing for a seamless flow. Gray mineral paint was applied to the walls, while concrete epoxy was used for the flooring, creating a harmonious backdrop. The introduction of arch forms in the hallway and curved lines in the recessed ceiling adds a touch of fluidity, reducing any rigidness.

The centerpiece of Essence of Void is the black wood island with a metal structure, accompanied by a stone-like cabinet that ensures stability while providing ample storage. The cabinet's pleating and line details add visual interest and, due to its rustic and textured veneer façade, its expression and characteristics vary with sunlight.

Spanning an area of 75.9 sq. m2, Essence of Void comprises a foyer, living room, dining room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a kitchen. Each space is thoughtfully designed to maximize possibilities and flexibilities, creating an environment that promotes serenity and offers an escape from urban life.

Located in Taipei City, Taiwan, the Essence of Void project commenced in May 2020 and was completed in September 2020. Throughout the design process, Studio One conducted extensive research to maximize the space and select materials that would enhance the overall aesthetic. The result is a residential project that seamlessly blends contemporary design with natural elements.

Essence of Void has garnered recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This accolade celebrates designs that exhibit creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
