My Home Steak: A Harmonious Blend of Nature and Comfort

Unveiling Tsai Chin Ming's Award-Winning Design for a Unique Dining Experience

Located in an industrial district, My Home Steak, a renowned chain restaurant in Taiwan, has been transformed into an indoor forest by designer Tsai Chin Ming. This innovative design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, is a testament to the designer's ability to blend nature, culture, and dining into a unique urban buffer space.

The inspiration for the design came from the lack of green spaces in the district. Tsai Chin Ming decided to create a Forest Steak House that would provide a natural and homely feel. The design incorporates elements of a house within a house, diverse booths, and retro designs to create a harmonious blend of fashion and nature. The result is a space where people can experience the beauty of food, culture, and nature.

My Home Steak is known for its healthy and affordable steak. With changes in the market, it has gradually transformed into a buffet restaurant. Adhering to the brand philosophy of health, comfort, and high quality, Tsai Chin Ming designed the restaurant as an indoor forest. The design includes elements of a house, from the outdoor porch and large glass windows to the self-service bar, reinforcing the brand philosophy of 'my home'.

The restaurant was built using eco-friendly materials such as wood wool cement board, marble, iron parts, laminate, ceramic tiles, glass, and metal. The facade of the restaurant is built with a large number of low-polluting, recyclable wood wool cement boards. The detailed textures of these boards, under the dazzling light, create a unique scene.

The area of 1,000 square meters was divided into five different seating sections, with the self-service bar being the key section. Five roof-shaped wooden frames were used to outline the shape of an arcade, bridging the center of the bar to the seating area. The middle section uses a combination of hollow metal flower stands and plant printing, creating a casual atmosphere of plants hanging down.

The design process was not without its challenges. To construct a magnificent entrance, the designer used the porch as an extension of the interior design. A double-layered frame was created using wood and hung from the ceiling of the veranda. This required accurate calculation of the weight that the ceiling could bear, as well as consideration of the proportion of spacing, symmetry, and overall visual harmony.

In conclusion, Tsai Chin Ming's design for My Home Steak is a testament to the power of innovative design in transforming spaces. By blending elements of nature, culture, and dining, the designer has created a unique dining experience that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also aligns with the brand's philosophy of health, comfort, and high quality.
