ServiceNow: A Neighborhood-Inspired Office Space

Shirli Zamir's Award-Winning Design Transforms the Traditional Office

The project, spanning 1800 square meters, was born from a deep exploration of the term "neighborhood". Zamir and her team sought to understand the dynamics of neighborhood spaces and how they could be translated into an office environment. The design language was inspired by a basic sketch of a tribal-looking partition, which was then incorporated into various elements of the office, including the reception pattern and open phone booths.

ServiceNow's shift from cubicle-based seating to a semi-open space provided the perfect basis for the neighborhood concept. The design team focused on creating a sense of community and interaction, with areas for eating, working, and socializing. The office features a large reception area, client-facing conference room, training rooms, coffee points for visitors, a large cafeteria, various meeting rooms, and a neighborhood working area.

One of the unique features of the design is its use of recycled materials. The cafeteria kitchen island and tribune, for example, are made from reclaimed wood, and the island's top is placed on recycled building blocks. This not only aligns with the company's appreciation for sustainable materials but also adds a unique aesthetic touch to the space.

The project, which started in October 2019 and was completed a year later in Petah Tikva, Israel, faced several challenges. One of the main obstacles was the transition from cubicles to open-space seating, which required careful planning and design to ensure a smooth transition. Budget constraints also posed a challenge, requiring the team to be creative in their design choices without compromising on quality or aesthetics.

Despite these challenges, the project has been widely recognized for its innovative approach to office design. The Silver A' Design Award is testament to the team's creativity, technical expertise, and commitment to creating a unique and engaging workspace. As more companies look to transform their office spaces, ServiceNow's office design offers a compelling example of what can be achieved with a fresh perspective and a commitment to sustainability.
