Embracing Bamboo Culture in a Unique Hotel Logo

Zhuliguan Hotel, designed by Zhongxiang Zheng, is a themed hotel that immerses guests in the rich bamboo culture of China. The hotel's logo, a key element of its identity, captures the essence of the brand and its philosophy. Inspired by the poem "Zhuliguan" by Tang Dynasty poet WANG Wei, the logo presents a course of gradual change, reflecting the philosophy of traditional Chinese Taoism.

The logo design simplifies the concept of a house into an ink dot, symbolizing the course of a wind-flown bamboo leaf passing by an ink dot and transforming into a bird. This transformation represents the journey of growth, starting from nothing and evolving into something beautiful. The pattern resembles both a bamboo and a swallow, creating a sense of anticipation for a new adventure.

To further enhance the dynamic change of the logo, black and white are used as the dominant colors. The combination of calligraphy and UV technology in the post-production process adds a touch of modernity and fashion to the design.

The logo is not only visually appealing but also functional. Zhuliguan Hotel has developed souvenirs featuring the logo, including notebooks, handbags, and T-shirts. The copywriting on these items, "The foolish ask more and the wise do not doubt," reinforces the logo's message and is loved by guests of all ages. The logo's meaning is easily understood, making it a memorable and impactful symbol for the hotel.

The design project for Zhuliguan Hotel was initiated in Hangzhou, China in June 2017 and completed in August 2018. Throughout the process, the designer conducted research on Taoism, particularly focusing on Chapter 42 of Tao and Teh by Laozi, which explores the creation of the universe. This research provided the foundation for the logo's concept and its connection to traditional Chinese philosophy.

Zhuliguan Hotel's logo has received recognition for its creativity and innovation. In 2021, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This prestigious award honors designs that are well-crafted, practical, and meet professional and industrial standards. The logo's integration of industry best practices and its ability to evoke positive emotions contribute to a better world.
