Nature Apartment

Interior Design by Yi-Lun Hsu

With a limited budget, the designer used a large number of lumber core plywood as cabinets with protective paint in the public space. This project presents the rustic texture of the wooden elements. On the lumber core plywood of the shoe cabinet, the designer creates a different geometrical interest for the interior space with the combination of different combinations of punching.

The Nature Apartment, designed by Yi-Lun Hsu, is a stunning example of interior design that prioritizes daylight, greenery, and wooden elements. The project, located in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, transformed a 100 square meter space into a warm and inviting home.

One of the main challenges faced by the designer was the original layout of the apartment, which consisted of two rooms and a tatami room open to the corridor. The abundance of cabinets in the rooms resulted in a lack of natural light and a cramped atmosphere. To address this, the designer removed the old cabinets, restoring three-sided windows in the master bedroom and dressing room to maximize the lighting area.

In the entrance hall, the designer used jungle-style hexagonal tiles with a cement floor to create a dust-falling area, instantly immersing visitors in a fresh and natural atmosphere. A glass screen was employed as a partition between the entrance and the dining room, improving traffic flow and creating a warm dining corner.

To satisfy the storage needs of the homeowners, a stepped bookshelf was incorporated behind the sofa. This unique piece combines iron frames and wooden boards, with movable wooden boxes that can be rearranged at will. The addition of green plants further enhances the warmth and liveliness of the space.

The Nature Apartment was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 for its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach to interior space. The use of lumber core plywood as cabinets not only showcases the rustic texture of the wooden elements but also demonstrates the designer's ability to create geometric interest through the combination of different punching patterns.

The Nature Apartment is a testament to the power of thoughtful design in transforming a space. By prioritizing natural light, greenery, and the use of wooden elements, Yi-Lun Hsu has created a home that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
