La Place by Centred: A Multifunctional Exhibition Cafe

An Avant-Garde Coffee Shop with a Minimalist Japanese Style

The office space "La Place by Centred" is a new type of multifunctional exhibition cafe located in the Mingsheng community. Designed by Zhen-xi Pang, this space aims to create an avant-garde coffee shop with a minimalist Japanese style. The project owner, an entrepreneur who has lived abroad for a long time, was inspired by his experiences in coffee shops around the world and wanted to bring a unique and pure image of Japanese aesthetics to this space.

One of the main challenges in designing La Place by Centred was the original shape of the space, which was narrow and long with visible pipelines hanging on the walls and ceiling. To address this, the design team created separations to highlight the front, middle, and back spaces, drawing a vertical movement line that extends to the rear. The ceiling is horizontal, and a wood grain axis runs through the entire space, adding a sense of cohesion and visual interest.

The most prominent feature of La Place by Centred is the gradient latte color on the walls, which was specially created to complement the on-site lighting and veneer color. This hand-brushed gradient color gives the space its own character and creates a beautiful and unique atmosphere. Additionally, the coffee area features a white diamond coating on the floor, providing a simple and clean background that resembles an art gallery. This coating is not only aesthetically pleasing but also offers waterproof, anti-slip, and anti-cracking properties, making it ideal for a frequently-entered commercial space.

The dining bar in La Place by Centred is a central element that combines beauty and functionality. It serves as the cash register area, hand-brewing area, and light meal production area. The design team focused on creating a smooth flow of operations, ensuring that staff can efficiently prepare meals while also being able to handle customer crowds effectively.

With a total space of 132 square meters, La Place by Centred provides a unique experience that combines the aesthetics of an art gallery with the functionality of a coffee shop. It offers a shared space for the community, allowing people to enjoy an independent office space within a multifunctional environment that extends art and cultural life. Through this coffee shop, La Place becomes a meeting point for community residents, fostering new ideas, friendships, and expanding social circles.

The project started in July 2020 and was completed in September 2020 in Taipei. La Place by Centred has received recognition for its innovative design, winning the Iron A' Design Award in 2021. This award acknowledges the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of the space, meeting professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
