Unveiling the Award-Winning Illustration Series for a Dried Fruit Brand

Designed by Rui Deng, the "Cat With Fruits" series is a collection of illustrations created for a dried fruit brand's packaging. The illustrations depict playful scenes of cats interacting with various fruits, using fresh colors to emphasize the product's purity and natural characteristics. The series won the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding creativity and innovation.

The unique properties of this design lie in its consistent concept and use of colors. The main colors, derived from nature, are used to paint scenes of cats and fruits in harmony. The design was realized using the camera function of a mobile phone to select colors from nature photos. These colors were then used to complete the series of illustrations featuring cats in various forms. The drawing process was carried out using Photoshop CC 2020, with the final design size being A4: 297 x 210 mm.

The project, which started in September 2020 in Hengdian and finished in January 2021 in Huainan, faced several challenges. These included color selection, composition of the picture, and the drawing style. The designer overcame these hurdles by desaturating the colors absorbed from the photos, selecting an intelligent cat as the protagonist, and choosing a specific drawing style after trying a wide range of drafts.

The "Cat With Fruits" series upholds the concept of naturalism, aiming to provide viewers with a comfortable and original experience of nature. The designer, holding romantic feelings, used gentle colors to draw this series of illustrations. The series was started in 2020, a challenging year for many, with the hope of comforting people through these works.
