Dashi Egg Sand

Enhancing the Takeout Experience with Innovative Packaging

The Dashi Egg Sand packaging, designed by Yuta Takahashi, revolutionizes the takeout experience by immersing consumers in the culinary journey from the moment they lay eyes on the package.

This unique package design, created for the Japanese Omelette Sandwich, combines functionality and aesthetics to elevate the act of enjoying a meal on the go. The wrapping paper features an intricate illustration of the sandwich's cross-section, capturing the softness and handmade feel of the dish. The rough texture of the illustration adds a touch of authenticity, enticing consumers to imagine the taste and texture of the sandwich even before opening the package.

When the package is opened, it transforms into a piece of tableware, displaying the dish in all its glory. The contrast between the bright blue claire printed on the back of the wrapping paper and the dark brown of the box creates a visually striking experience. The form of the package evokes images of parties and picnics, enhancing the sense of occasion and making the meal feel special.

One of the key strengths of the Dashi Egg Sand packaging is its attention to detail and the use of high-quality materials. The ink used for the illustrations is an original mix, carefully chosen to express the colors of eggs, secret sauce, and the ocean blue, which represents the client's store. The box itself is made of unbleached kraft paper with water and oil-resistant processing, eliminating the need for plastic or film materials and reducing its environmental impact.

The package includes various items such as wrapping paper, message cards, lids, and stickers. However, the selection and processing of materials have resulted in an impressive cost-performance ratio, making it an economically viable choice for businesses.

The Dashi Egg Sand packaging was meticulously designed to enhance the overall dining experience. It invites consumers to savor not just the taste of the food but also the visual and tactile aspects of the meal. By considering the importance of aesthetics and functionality in takeout food, Yuta Takahashi has created a design that goes beyond mere food containment, transforming it into a tool that enriches the eating space and elevates the enjoyment of the meal.

Since its launch in February 2021, the Dashi Egg Sand packaging has garnered attention and recognition in the design community. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes the innovative and creative nature of the design, which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to an improved quality of life.
