The concept of Tipit was born out of a common problem faced by many - the inability to leave a tip when paying with a card or smart device. The design team at Desdorp, inspired by the functionality of an amplifier's potentiometer wheel, created a device that allows users to adjust the amount of tip they wish to give by simply rotating a wheel.
Tipit is not just a card reader; it's a unique device that makes tipping a fun and engaging experience. The device's potentiometer wheel not only allows users to adjust the tip amount but also encourages them to play and experiment, thereby increasing the likelihood of leaving a tip. The device is designed to be used by visitors at cafes, bars, and restaurants who wish to express their gratitude to the service staff. It is also beneficial for waiters and bartenders who can now receive tips digitally, and managers who wish to provide their staff with an opportunity to increase revenue.
The device is made using local production methods. Its soft touch makes it user-friendly and easy to disinfect. The screen is bent at an angle that makes it perfectly visible to the users. The device's dimensions are 212 mm in depth, 127 mm in width, and 83 mm in height.
The design process of Tipit was not without its challenges. The biggest hurdle was to create a product that had no analogues and to develop a new user scenario for tipping. The team used augmented reality to check the general proportions and imagine the usage of the product in a real environment. The result is a playful, innovative device that has been appreciated by the design community and awarded the Silver A' Wholesale, Retail Trade, Commerce and E-Commerce Design Award in 2022.
In conclusion, Tipit is a testament to Desdorp's innovative approach to design. It addresses a real-world problem with a solution that is not only practical but also engaging and fun. As the world moves towards cashless transactions, devices like Tipit are paving the way for a seamless, enjoyable tipping experience.
